Ian Spalding Memorial Scholarship Fund

On May 31, 2020, a member of our MVP Elite family, Ian Spalding, lost his life in a tragic accident. Ian Spalding was only 17 years old and had just finished his junior year of high school during covid.

Our MVP program was practicing in preparation for the Pylon National Championship come July, and Ian had just practiced the day before his passing - May 30th.

Heading into that tournament, our program was considered the “small program from Southern Oregon”, and faced some of the best players in the country including: Terrance Ferguson - now with the Ducks, JJ McCarthy - now with Michigan and Emeka Egbuka - now with Ohio State. Our players came together and played in honor of Ian. We took the field to start the tournament without a QB and instead had Ian’s MVP jersey in that place. Our kids fought hard as a team which landed us in the championship against the favorite. On a 3rd & short, the best WR in the nation dropped a pass exactly where Ian would have been covering him and MVP became the Pylon National Champions.

Ian was one of the most amazing kids. He befriended everyone in the program, was a straight A student, a 2-sport star (he was outstanding in baseball), and simply the kind of young man everyone should know.

This scholarship will be going to a graduating senior from the MVP program to help pay for college. Ian’s parents, Mike & Carly, will be instrumental in picking the winner that best follows in the tremendous footsteps left behind by Ian.

Your generous contributions are to help us raise funds for this scholarship. Please email us at mvp7on7boosterclub@gmail.com with donations.

Thank you for taking time to learn about Ian and for helping us in this tremendous cause to keep his memory alive!!  #SpaldingStrong
